Strolling garden

The blocky rust-toned boulders unearthed on site were arranged in a semicircular, low, broad wall that contrasts with the undulating landform behind it. A cedar pergola provides the walls and ceilings to this meeting place while also framing views into the garden beyond. As the sun moves across the sky, shifting shadows are cast along the ground plane, always offering some welcome respite from the blaring sun. This is the gateway into the garden, and the beginning of a continuous path that provides the opportunity for a leisurely walk. Seating nestled along the path encourages residents to meet and enjoy their surroundings. A smaller, more intimate gathering space is carved out of the surrounding berms. These earthen berms help shape space, guide movement, and support the roots of the trees and shrubs that present an evolving display of textures and colors throughout the seasons.
